The Hidden Tribe
Meaning: She’s Precious
Material: Real red Moroccan suede leather, Vintage wool Berber Zayan Hanbel (wool) , sequins, silk fringes.
Description: Hanbel is made through a flat-weave process whereby the weaver threads the weft back and forth through the wrap until the rug or pillow is finished.
Symbology: Throughout the Hanbel you can see diamond shapes (female element suggesting fertility) surrounded and filled with ladders and hatched lines (male element suggesting virility and protection). The sequins are tiny mirrors intended to protect the female-male union by keeping away the evil eye.
The long silk fringes are supposed to distract the praying eye from intruding in the weaver’s personal and intimate life as well as project her high social status.
