  • Type: Pile Knot Rug
  • Origin:  Beni Ourain.
  • Dimension:
  • Technique: Pile Knot weave
  • Decoration and Symbology: The Beni Ourain are known for their minimalistic decor and monochromic colors, mostly black and white. The weavers tend to use the diamond as their main symbol, sometimes taking center stage sometimes covering the entire carpet from top to bottom, which is the case of this one. At first the diamonds look like they have the same size, but a closer look suggest different story. There is a gradual expansion from the bottom of the carpet to its top, suggesting the progression of pregnancy through the representation of the expansion of the uterus (Diamonds). The male element here is represented through the frame surrounding the entire carpet, an element of protection of the female's fertility/pregnancy (Diamonds).
