The Hidden Tribe
Material: Real grey Moroccan leather, Vintage wool Berber Ben Mguild Hanbel, Vintage Berber Jewelry.
Description: Hanbel is made through a flat-weave process whereby the weaver threads the weft back and forth through the wrap until the rug or pillow is finished.
Symbology: The main theme in this vintage piece are the diamond elements (female symbol suggesting fertility and womanhood) surrounded with lines forming ladders (Male symbol). The expansion of the diamond shapes from the center toward the sides suggests the enlargement of the woman’s womb.
The jewelry we chose for this piece is a necklace intended to add an element of protection, used frequently by the Berber women to hold talismans and keep away the “evil eye”.
